I can’t avoid it, so I apologise in advance to any readers. I’ve preached about positive thinking several times already, but thanks to the Irish doom-and-gloom media today is distinctly not going to be positive.
In early April, it was reported that 20,000 people signed onto the Live Register in March bringing the unemployment rate to 11%. Today, the CSO has released more figures along the same lines – an increase of 13,000 people from last month, increasing the unemployment rate to 11.4%. Less of a jump than March admittedly, but still a major increase.
There is no escaping the bad news coming from the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) report. The Dublin-based think tank forecasts the loss of 300,000 job in Ireland before the end of next year. It also predicts the unemployment rate will increase in 2010 to 17%.
Again, sorry.
